I climbed Vinson
Massif (Antarctica) in January of 2006,
Kosciuszko (Australia) and Carstensz Pyramid
(Indonesia) in May of 2006, and Mt. Everest in
April and May of 2007. I am currently training
again for the 2008 Mt. Everest expedition. Thus,
I have thus been in fairly continuous training
for almost 2 years. My current training regime
includes workouts in the gym 3-4 times per week,
trips to the local mountains and bicycling on
weekends.
My workouts in the
gym involve running on a treadmill and upper and
lower body weight exercises. I am blessed to
have an abundance of challenging mountains
within driving distance, including Mt. Whitney
(my favorite mountain in the world, which I have
scaled 9 times--5 via the Mountaineer’s Route),
San Gorgonio, San Antonio (Mt. Baldy) and San
Jacinto. Bicycling is my favorite training
exercise because I am joined by Oliver, my
7-year old year old disabled grandson, who rides
with me in a trailer which I pull behind the
bike. See Training
